Recently crowned Moto2 champion Alex Marquez will join his brother Marc at Repsol Honda for the 2020 MotoGP season, after Jorge Lorenzo announced his retirement last week in Valencia.
It seemed that it was a two horse race between Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco for the vacant Repsol Honda seat but it has been confirmed today that Marquez has won that battle.
Despite telling the media he had no say in the decision, it seems clear that Honda want to keep Marquez happy and there is no better way of pleasing the 8 time world champion than making his brother his teammate.
There has been a lot of speculation about all the vacant seats for the 2021 season with Marc Marquez being linked with KTM. Honda will hope that by adding Alex Marquez to their squad, Marc will sign a new contract.
All of this leaves Johann Zarco without a ride for the time being, despite two very plucky performances in Sepang and Valencia. However, the rumors going around are that Zarco will go to Pramac with Jack Miller being promoted to the Factory Ducati while the struggling Danilo Petrucci would be demoted down to the Avintia team. Zarco has openly said that he doesn’t want to ride the Avintia.
Nothing has been confirmed about any of the three Ducati rumors yet.
