Once again, Red Bull have shocked the Formula One paddock by dropping Pierre Gasly from their second seat at Red Bull Racing!
We all knew that Gasly was under a huge amount of pressure, after what Red Bull have done in the past with Daniil Kvyat and Max Verstappen. However, not many people would’ve thought that Red Bull would drop Gasly halfway through his first year at Red Bull and replace him with a rookie.
It seemed that Silverstone was going to be a turning point for Gasly, who managed to take 4th place, but Hungary was yet another disappointing race for the Frenchman finishing behind Carlos Sainz in 6th. Gasly lies 6th in the drivers standings but only 5 points ahead of Sainz’s McLaren.
So Red Bull have now pulled the plug on Gasly, which all means that it is the time to shine for Alexander Albon. The young Thai is only halfway through his first Formula One season but Helmut Marko clearly has the faith in him. Albon lies 15th in the drivers standings with 16 points.
Red Bull will be hoping that Albon will help Max Verstappen in gaining 2nd position in the constructors standings off Ferrari, who lie 44 points ahead of the Austrian outfit. Albon’s debut at Red Bull will be the Belgian Grand Prix, which is just under three weeks away!
