Andrea Dovizioso made a last lap pass on the last corner, just like 2 years ago, to take only his 2nd win of the season at the Austrian Grand Prix!
Once again, it was a huge titanic battle between Marquez and Dovizioso. On the first lap, Marquez pushed himself and Dovi out wide which meant that it was the Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo who led the first few laps.
Sadly, the lack of speed on the Yamaha showed, once again. So when Dovi and Marquez caught up to the Frenchman, they passed with ease.
With 3 laps to go, Marquez passed Dovizioso and it seemed that the Spaniard would just pull away. However, the Italian fought hard and on the last lap at the last corner, he dived to the inside and managed to make a successful block pass to win. This means that the Ducati 100% win record at Austria still stays in tact and the lead in the championship is cut to 58 points.
Behind these 2, the Yamaha trio of Fabio Quartararo, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales who finished 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. Alex Rins had a quiet race in P6. Jack Miller was battling Quartararo and Rossi until he crashed out on the penultimate corner.
Elsewhere, there was strong races for 2 other rookies in the name of Pecco Bagnaia and Miguel Oliveira. They both finished in P7 and P8 with both of their teammates not finishing. Oliveira even managed to be the top KTM at their home event.
Pol Espargaro’s KTM cut out, on the first few laps, and sadly Cal Crutchlow had nowhere to go and crashed out. A difficult weekend for the Brit.
