BMW driver Marco Wittmann secured pole for the opening race at Assen, beating Rast and Duval to the top spot.
The result is Wittmann’s first pole position since the Zolder opener in May and was just 0.158s ahead of Rast in the Audi.
The time went unbeaten as the second runs were delayed as Jake Dennis’ Aston Martin slowed down, causing a red flag.
Rast’s final run started strong but as the lap progressed he could not match Wittmann.
Loic Duval sealed the third spot ahead of Fittipaldi, a strong showing for the Audi teams.
Glock took fifth followed by Muller, Van Der Linde, Spengler, Eng and Eriksson.
Juncadella was the top Aston Martin in 15th ahead of di Resta, Habsburg and Dennis, who did not rejoin after stopping.
