Hamilton To Receive Three Place Grid Penalty for Tomorrow’s Austrian GP

Lewis Hamilton has been penalised after an incident in Q1 where he impeded Kimi Raikkonen on his fast lap.

The incident in question occurred on the approach to the sharp hair-pin of turn three where Hamilton noticed the Alfa Romeo of Kimi Raikkonen too little too late. In order to try and prevent any blocking he straight lined the corner, but Raikkonen still backed off and provided a rude gesture to the British driver.

“Totally deserved the penalty today and have no problem accepting it. Was a mistake on my behalf and I take full responsibility for it. It wasn’t intentional. Anyway, tomorrow is another day and an opportunity to Rise.”

This penalty now moves Max Verstappen to P2, Valtteri Bottas to P3, however, because of a penalty that Kevin Magnussen received this weekend prior to Hamilton’s, the Mercedes’ driver will start P4.
