Despite having a crash, Marc Marquez took his 55th pole position ahead of tomorrow’s French Grand Prix!
The Spaniard put his best laptime at the start of the session, just before he crashed into turn 4. The track conditions then got worse thanks to more light rain. All of this meant that Marquez’s first flying lap was enough to take pole position.
Jack Miller managed to put his Pramac on the front row but like Marquez, the Aussie crashed after his flying lap. Pol Espargaro also crashed at the same corner Marquez crashed at. Espargaro will start in 12th.
Danilo Petrucci had a very strong qualifying, managing to put his Ducati on the front row in 2nd. His teammate Andrea Dovizioso will start in 4th.
Yamaha were looking very strong in practice and with Valentino Rossi making it through Q1, they would’ve expected more in Q2. Rossi managed to salvage 5th position but Maverick Vinales will be bitterly disappointed with 11th.
Having took 1st and 2nd in Jerez, Petronas Yamaha were back down to earth with Franco Morbidelli qualifying 6th and home hero Fabio Quartararo qualifying 10th.
Elsewhere, Cal Crutchlow was caught out in the changeable conditions in Q1 and will start the French Grand Prix down in 15th! As well as Crutchlow, championship contender Alex Rins will start all the way down in 19th! A lot of work needed for both Crutchlow and Rins ahead of the grand prix.
