DTM: MotoGP’s Andrea Dovizioso to drive for Audi

Ducati rider Andrea Dovisioso will drive the Audi RS5 in the Misano round of DTM this year.

The Italian will guest drive at his ‘home’ race, following in the footsteps of other riders who moved to four wheels such as Johnny Cecotto.

‘Dovi’, as he is known within the MotoGP community, will get the chance to test Audi’s 600bhp turbo-charged machine during an intensive two-day test at the Misano circuit ahead of the race weekend.

“This is a big deal – and not just for MotoGP fans…I’m really pleased that our manufacturers are supporting the concept of high-profile guest drivers once again this season.”

Said Gerhard Berger, Chairman of the DTM umbrella organisation ITR.

We’ve already seen other celebrity drives recently with Mattias Ekström, Alex Zanardi and Sebastien Ogier jumping on board the DTM metal. It shows a strong effort from the series to increase interest across the board.

Dovizioso had this to say:

“I am very happy to be competing in such a competitive series as the DTM…For every Italian racer, Misano is a special track, and the place where I scored an incredible victory last year. That’s why I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity.”

We’ll watch with interest and hope for more of the same from DTM.
