Tordoff tops time-sheets at Brands Hatch pre-season test

Sam Tordoff topped the time sheets in both the morning and afternoon sessions at Brands Hatch today (Wednesday 27th March) as all 30 cars took to the track for the first time in 2019.

Tordoff beat Jack Goff’s 2018 pole lap time around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit this afternoon with a time of 47.927 seconds. He was followed home by Tom Chilton, who was just one-tenth of a second slower with Dan Cammish sitting in third at the end of the day’s running.

“It was a mega day,” Tordoff told the BTCC website. “We’ve done a full race weekend simulation. This morning we carried out a free practice and qualifying run, and this afternoon we’ve completed three race runs. The Civic Type R is on the money and is without doubt the best touring car I’ve ever driven.”

“I’ve done so many laps today that I’m feeling a little dizzy,” commented Chilton. “We’ve struggled a bit during testing following some developments and had to push quite hard. We’re now at the point where I’m happy and hopefully we can run at the front back at Brands next weekend.”

All 30 cars completed over 3,000 laps between them as they stepped up their preparations for the season ahead. As it was still only a test session, all the teams on the grid differed in their approach to the day with some going for the longer race runs, others looking and trying different set-ups and – in the cases of West Surrey Racing and Tom Ingram and his Speedworks Motorsport team -getting used to new machinery.

The West Surrey Racing squad impressively finished second, third and eighth in the morning session whilst Tom Ingram set the fifteenth fastest time as he continued to try and adapt to his new Toyota Corolla.
