Andrea Dovizioso took back to back victories in a stunning Qatar Grand Prix pipping Marc Marquez by 0.023 seconds!
Dovizioso led the opening laps from Pramac’s Jack Miller but Miller had a seat pad issue which dropped him out of the order.
The Ducati rider slowed the pack down to preserve his tyres and when he decided to pull the pin, Marc Marquez, Alex Rins, Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi went with him.
Just like last year, Marc Marquez made a move into turn 16 but went in too hot allowing Dovizioso to take victory by just 0.023 seconds.
Behind the front 2, Alex Rins was a constant threat and occasionally led but sadly, the straightline speed on the Suzuki was no match for the Honda or the Ducati. In the last couple of laps, Rins was battling for 3rd with Cal Crutchlow -a battle that the Brit won-
Both Rins and Crutchlow’s teammates had good races with Joan Mir battling with the frontrunners for the opening half of the race. Mir finished in 8th with Takaaki Nakagami one place behind in 9th.
The star of qualifying -Fabio Quatararo- stalled on the grid and had to start from pitlane. Despite the massive handicap, the Frenchman had absolutely stunning initial race pace but sadly went through his tyres too quickly and finished outside the points.
Despite starting on pole, Maverick Vinales had a nightmare race! Once again, the Spaniard had a poor start and then didn’t have the race pace of his rivals to challenge for the podium. Vinales eventually finished in 7th well behind his teammate despite Rossi starting in 14th!
Finally, Jorge Lorenzo had a very disappointing weekend with the 5 time world champion qualifying in 15th and could only manage to finish in 13th thanks to a couple of late overtakes. At one point, Lorenzo was down in 19th!
