Vinales storms to pole in Qatar!

Maverick Vinales responded to all of the Yamaha doubters to take a dominant pole position ahead of Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez!

After a disappointing 2018, Yamaha arrived with a bang! Maverick Vinales posted a 1:53.546 to give Yamaha a well needed boost.

Joining Vinales on the front row are the two title favourites; Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso and reigning world champion Marc Marquez. Dovizioso has had a very quiet weekend (even for Andrea Dovizioso) but managed to put the right lap in at the right time. Marquez managed to get a tow from Danilo Petrucci to move him onto the front row.

From jubilation with Vinales, it is devastation for Valentino Rossi. The Italian could only manage to qualify 14th after both LCR Honda’s advanced into Q2. VR46 rider Pecco Bagnaia will qualified one postion ahead of Rossi in 13th.

Rossi’s old teammate, Jorge Lorenzo also had a disastrous Saturday! The Repsol Honda rider suffered 2 crashes and will start the Qatar Grand Prix in 15th!

Cal Crutchlow had a fairly strong qualifying, along with LCR Honda teammate Taakaki Nakagami who will start 6th and 9th respectively.

The most impressive rider of the day was Petronas Yamaha’s Fabio Quatararo who managed to out qualify teammate Franco Morbidelli and will start a stunning 5th position!

Fellow French rider, Johann Zarco has been constantly struggling with the his new KTM. Zarco will start 21st only ahead of Hafizh Syahrin and Bradley Smith! His teammate, Pol Espargaro will line up in 16th ahead of Tech 3 KTM rookie Miguel Olivera.
