The Qatar Grand Prix is just 5 days away! Here is a preview and some predictions ahead of the 2019 season opener.
Finally! After a long winter break, MotoGP is back! As usual, the Qatar Grand Prix will be the season opener under the floodlights.
It is hard to see a clear favourite for the win, with such a competitive field, but you’ve got to look at Ducati and Andrea Dovizioso after a strong winter and being the defending race winners, eyes will be on them.
Reigning world champion, Marc Marquez will obviously be in contention for victory but after his shoulder surgery in the winter, no one knows if Marquez will be 100% fit over a whole race distance just yet.
The same can be said for Marquez’s new teammate Jorge Lorenzo who suffered a training injury over the winter and his laptimes in testing shows that either it is taking the 5 time world champion time to adapt to yet another new bike or the injury is still healing. It seems more than likely that it is the latter option but whatever the reason, it looks like its going to be a struggle for Lorenzo to take victory this weekend on the Honda.
Probably one of the strongest riders in testing was Suzuki’s Alex Rins. The Spaniard was constantly near the top of the time sheets in every testing session. Now that Rins is Suzuki’s number 1 rider, I feel he will definitely be in contention for a podium and even the win!
Yamaha are heading into such a crucial and critical season. After a disastrous 2018, Yamaha will want to keep Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales happy with a strong package. They certainly look stronger than last year but they seem to still be behind Ducati, Honda and Rins. It seems that victory is going to be a fairly tough task, this weekend.
