A red flag stopped the race halfway through but the Italian dominated the shortened second race!
Dovizioso had to stay patiently behind Suzuki’s Alex Rins, who led the first half of the race until a red flag, thanks to the weather conditions.
Many riders crashed out including Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales. However, Rossi managed to finish in 13th and secured 3rd in the championship thanks to Vinales’ crash.
When the re-start happened, Rins just couldn’t keep up with the Ducati of Dovizioso but thanks to Rossi’s late crash, Rins took yet another 2nd position!
The rider of the day was Pol Espargaro though, who managed to secure a historic podium for KTM, despite crashing out in the first half of the race. This was KTM’s and Espargaro’s first MotoGP podium! KTM won in Moto3 and Moto2 to top off their wonderful day.
Elsewhere, retiring Dani Pedrosa manged to secure 5th just behind Ducati’s Michele Pirro.
The Brits Bradley Smith and Scott Redding managed to survive the chaos and finish in 8th and 11 respectively. Smith crashed 1 lap before the red flag but managed to push his bike into pitlane to ensure he could make the restart.
