2018 world champion Marc Marquez took his 9th victory of the year after Valentino Rossi crashes out of the lead in the final laps!
It seemed for a lot of the race that Yamaha would take shock back to back wins after Maveric Vinales’ win last time out in Phillip Island. Johann Zarco would start on pole position with Rossi 2nd after Marquez picked up a 6 place grid penalty for blocking Suzuki’s Andrea Iannone, yesterday.
Rossi led for most of the race and had consistent lap times that even impressed his old nemesis Jorge Lorenzo. Marquez cut his way through the field and survived a massive scare at the last corner which sadly Andrea Iannone reacted to and crashed in the process.
After passing the likes of Zarco, Rins, Iannone and Jack Miller, the world champion hunted down Rossi. It seemed like it was going to be a titanic battle for the win. However, Rossi would lose the front end into turn 1 and deny the Italian his first win since Assen 2017. This meant Marquez could cruise it to the finish and take his 9th win of the season.
Behind the Spaniard, Alex Rins took home yet another podium after an impressive 2nd half of the year and polesitter Johann Zarco would take 3rd in his penultimate race for the Tech 3 Yamaha team.
Marquez’s retiring teammate Dani Pedrosa had a strong race in 5th and will want to bow out with a good result in Valencia.
Home hero Hazfish Shyarin had an awful qualifying but recovered superbly with a top 10 finish equaling his best result of the year.
