Audi Sport announced officially earlier today that W Racing Team (WRT) would join the DTM series for 2019.
WRT, mostly known for GT and TCR racing will join as a customer team, entering two new Audi RS5s.
“Together with the ITR, we have been working hard over the past few months to reopen the DTM for customer teams…I know Vincent Vosse and his team very well from Super Touring and the many years we worked together in GT racing. I know how strong the WRT team is. I am convinced that WRT also has the potential to establish itself in the DTM.”
Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass.
Born in Belgium, WRT was founded in 2009 and has seen huge success with numerous victories and titles in the R8 LMS GT3 cars at top flight races like the 24h of Spa, Nurburgring and Dubai to name just a few. Big names such as the Vanthoor brothers, Robin Frijns, Nico Mueller and René Rast have graced the team over the years.
This is great news for DTM as I have had some personal experience with the team and I am absolutely confident they will bring a real competitive edge to the series. It seems DTM is going from strength to strength, despite losing Mercedes next year.
Keep it up, DTM!
