Lewis Hamilton takes a stunning pole position at Singapore!

Lewis Hamilton took another crucial step in the championship as he produced the lap of the season ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

It seemed that Mercedes were going to struggle in qualifying compared to Red Bull and Ferrari but Hamilton produced a stunning 1:36.0 on his first Q3 run to take his 79th pole position!

Sebastian Vettel had a scrappy qualifying, trying to qualify on the Ultra-soft tyres which failed and in Q3, Vettel was 0.6 seconds off Hamilton’s time. Vettel’s teammate Kimi Raikkonen also struggled trying to do the same Q2 strategy as Vettel and also failing. Kimi qualified a very disappointing 5th behind fellow Finn Valtteri Bottas.

Red Bull seemed off the pace in practice but thankfully, they had good pace in qualifying and Max Verstappen showed that pace putting his car on the front row. Daniel Ricciardo has been off the pace compared to his teammate since his move to Renault has been announced and qualified in 6th.

The best of the rest was Sergio Perez, with his best qualifying result at Singapore with his teammate lying in 9th and Romain Grosjean in the Force India sandwich.
