Ducati scored yet another victory but were robbed of a 1-2 finish after a late crash for Jorge Lorenzo!
Lorenzo led from the start ahead of Miller and Dovizioso. Dovi passed Miller on the 1st lap and went down catching his teammate. Jack Miller crashed at turn 14 a lap after Marquez passed him into the same corner.
Dovizioso then passed Lorenzo into turn 8 with 22 laps to go, which would eventually turn out to be the race winning pass. Marquez and Lorenzo were then dicing it for second position for a few laps until Lorenzo repassed Marquez with 9 laps to go.
It seemed that the podium positions were all settled until Lorenzo crashed on the penultimate lap at turn 8! The Spaniard would eventually finish in 17th position after fighting Bradley Smith on the last lap!
Great Britain’s Cal Crutchlow passed Alex Rins for 4th position into turn 1 with 19 laps to go. This didn’t seem that significant but after Lorenzo’s crash, this was a battle for the podium which Crutchlow would come out on top. Both Crutchlow and Rins were happy with their results after legitimately finishing ahead of both Factory Yamaha’s.
Talking about Yamaha, they had yet another poor race with Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi finishing in 5th and 7th positions respectively. This was bitterly disappointing for Rossi in front of his home crowd and in the process, lost 2nd position in the championship to Dovizioso.
Elsewhere, Superbike bound Alvaro Bautista would have another strong race in 9th position for the Angel Nieto team.
