We all suspected that our favourite Spaniard had been considered for a seat at Red Bull, but he today confirmed it in a cheeky interview with Sky F1.
Despite Red Bull team boss Christan Horner’s comments stating Red Bull did not want the McLaren driver, even going so far as to suggest he could be a negative influence at the team:
“I’ve got huge respect for Fernando, he’s a great, fantastic driver, but it would be very difficult to see,”
“He’s tended to cause a bit of chaos wherever he’s gone.
“I’m not sure it would be the healthiest thing for the team for Fernando to join.
“Our preference would be to continue to invest in youth [rather] than take a driver who is obviously close to the end of his career.”
Well, today, Alonso confirmed that he was in fact offered Daniel Ricciardo’s seat on more than one occasion. Skip to 19:30 if the video doesn’t take you straight there.
So it seems Horner protested a little too much if we are to believe Fernando. Of course, he could be doing exactly what he was accused of, causing some chaos – albeit on his way out the door!
