The 2017 Moto3 Champion will partner fellow Spaniard Alex Rins at Suzuki in MotoGP next year!
There had been some very strong rumors about Mir heading to Suzuki and they were even stronger when Andrea Iannone announced that he would be moving to Aprilia next season. The rumor was even stronger when Jorge Lorenzo (who was one of three riders fighting for the Suzuki seat) was going to move to Repsol Honda.
Mir has only been in this paddock for 2 and a half years and in his debut season, he took victory in Austria along with 2 other podiums. Next season, Mir dominated the Moto3 season taking a storming 10 victories.
In Moto2 this season, Joan Mir has impressed so many people after adapting to the much bigger bike so quick. After 6 races, Mir has already scored 2 podiums which were in the last 2 races in Mugello and Le Mans. He is 5th in the world championship and if he keeps this consistency going, he will definitely win a race and maybe fight for the championship.
Whilst this is delight for Mir, it is now worry for his teammate Alex Marquez. Marquez was tipped to be in MotoGP next season but now, after all of these seats being confirmed so early, he might need to stick at Moto2 for yet another season.
