Podium lockout for BMW in Budapest

Marco Wittmann won the sixth race of the season ahead of fellow BMW drivers Timo Glock and Philipp Eng at the Hungaroring in Budapest.

The German claimed victory in what he called ‘an unbelievable race’ which saw an interruption due to accidents in the pit lane.

Red flags were shown after Lucas Auer, Edoardo Mortara and Bruno Spengler ended up sliding around on slippery concrete in front of the pit boxes. Pit lane workers including firemen, mechanics for Mercedes were treated on site, a marshal was flown to hospital with sever leg injuries. None are thought to be in a critical condition.

“After what happened today, the sporting action is of secondary importance, I wish the injured assistants and mechanics a speedy recovery.”

Gerhard Berger, chairman of the DTM organisation ITR commented.

Unfortunately, much of the action was cut down by the red flag, but it does change the championship standings with Glock reclaiming the lead, 11 points ahead of Paffett, Di Resta and Auer.

Below are the provisional results, although it is now confirmed that Mortara, Auer and Spengler were disqualified from the race.

The next stop is Norisring in Nuremburg, the only street circuit on the calendar.
