Williams protest Alonso’s lap one drive in Baku

Williams have lodged a protest with the Stewards regarding the manner in which Fernando Alonso returned to the pits on lap one of the Baku GP.

The team have asked the stewards to review the ruling on the lap one incident involving their driver Sirotkin, Alonso and Hulkenberg. Where the Spaniard was hit and ended up on two wheels, limping back to the pits, going on to finish 7th overall, one place ahead of the other Williams driver, Lance Stroll.

The British team are suggesting that Alonso should have parked his car rather than get back to the pits.

Check out the below video of the incident and his heroic drive back to the pits:

Sirotkin, who went on to receive points on his license for contact with Sergio Perez, as well as a three place grid penalty for the Spanish GP this weekend, continued a poor run with a DNF.
